Bridgeport Hospital paramedic program
first in county to be nationally accredited
|Bridgeport Hospital’s paramedic training program is the first and only one in Fairfield County, and one of only four in Connecticut, to be nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Healthcare Education Programs (CAAHEP).|
CAAHEP has recognized the Bridgeport Hospital program for meeting standards governing administration, resources, faculty and facilities. The standards were developed by paramedic professionals and reflect what an individual needs to know to perform successfully in the profession.
Established in 1995, the hospital’s paramedic training program is administered by the Bridgeport Hospital Emergency Medicine Institute (BHEMI) and is one of the oldest continuously operated programs in Connecticut. It graduates approximately 25 trainees each year, most who go on to work for area ambulance companies and fire departments. The hospital also offers basic and advanced emergency medical technician classes as well as a full line of American Heart Association first aid, CPR and safety courses.
For more information about the paramedic program or other BHEMI courses, call Barry Barkinsky, program manager, at (203) 384-3791.
